Dinner by Heston Blumenthal sommelier wins Imbibe Sommelier Challenge

Carlos Simoes of Dinner by Heston Blumenthal receives his winning cheque from Imbibe magazine editor Chris Losh

Carlos Simoes, sommelier at London restaurant Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, has won the inaugural Imbibe Sommelier Challenge. 

Simoes beat 64 other entrants to the prize of a cheque for £1,000 in the palate-based competition, which asked sommeliers and wine buyers to match the correct tasting note with examples of red, white, sparkling and sweet wines as well as point out the exact region and grape variety. 

He said: "I am delighted to have won and will be spending the cash prize on a selection of wines that will age well and will be a good investment.”

The Imbibe Sommelier Challenge was part of the Sommelier Hub, a new VIP area designed exclusively for sommeliers and wine buyers, which took place at London's Olympia earlier this month.
