Fairtrade and eco-responsible hot drinks

Tea, coffee and even hot chocolate are vital products for every hospitality business to keep in stock, and environmentally-aware operators will know the best brands to buy are those marrying quality with sustainable production.

Kenco freeze-dried coffee now Rainforest Alliance Certified

Kenco’s entire range of freeze-dried coffee is now sourced from beans grown on Rainforest Alliance Certified (RAC) farms, as part of parent company Kraft Foods’ focus on sustainability and ethical sourcing.

The range, which joins Kenco Roast and Ground and Kenco Singles filter coffee as RAC, feature blends such as Westminster Medium Roast, Kenco Sustainable Development Medium Dark Roast and Kenco Italia Dark Roast.

Farms carrying the RAC seal not only work with and support local farmers, giving them a decent wage and access to clean water, medical care and education, but help sustain the local environment through eliminating dangerous pesticides, and reducing water pollution and soil erosion.

A Pukka cup of sustainable tea

Pukka Herbs’ range of luxury herbal teas is perfect for hospitality operators seeking to improve their sustainability operation without skimping on taste.

Ecologically grown using sustainable managed projects in India and Sri Lanka, Pukka teas are blended by founder Sebastian Pole according to Good Manufacturing Procedures. The company itself works to off-set its carbon emissions by donating to Climate Care, manages an internal recycling scheme to limit wastage, and uses recycled paper and vegetable inks where possible.

Teas available in the 100 per cent carbon neutral company’s range include Three Berry, Black Spiced Chai, Lemon Green Tea, Love Tea (rose, lavender and chamomile), and Pleasure Tea (cocoa, liquorice and chicory).
