Xiringuito restaurant to move from Margate to Liverpool

Moveable restaurant Xiringuito, which has been operating in Margate for the last five months, is popping up in its new location of Liverpool

Xiringuito, the 'moveable' restaurant designed by architect Asif Khan and run by Conor Sheehan and chef Jackson Berg, will open in its second location of Liverpool later this month.

The restaurant, which opened in Margate in Kent in June, has been dismantled and moved to a disused warehouse Liverpool's Cains Brewery where it will re-open on 15 November for business.

Sheehan, who worked with Berg at Puschka in Liverpool and Bistrotheque in London before coming up with the idea for Xiringuito, said: "We wanted to move Xiringuito to a city for the winter months and Liverpool, being our hometown, seemed the natural choice. The bar and restaurant scene there has been burgeoning more and more over the last few years so it seems a really exciting scene to get involved in."

Like in Margate it Liverpool Xiringuito will serve Berg's internationally influenced British dishes, but the menu will feature new specially commissioned artwork by illustrator John Booth and the new location will also offer a separate bar area and a weekend brunch menu.

Dishes on the brunch menu will include a Mortadella, raclette & avocado croissant and Black pudding, smoked cod’s roe, fried egg. There will also be brunch cocktails including a Bacon fat & caraway.

The name, Xiringuito (pronounced chi-rin-gito), is taken from the Catalan name for the provisional, seasonal bars that open up on beaches during the summer months and references the transitional nature of the restaurant.

Khan, who won a D&AD Award for designing Littlehampton's West Beach Café, designed the original restaurant structure comprising a framework from scaffolding poles to allow a quick and easy build at each new location.

The restaurant from Margate will be rebuilt in the warehouse space in Liverpool with the restaurants' tables, chairs and kitchen equipment all being transported to Liverpool in a shipping container.
