Danish bakers Ole & Steen set for Canary Wharf

Ole & Steen bakery opening at Canary Wharf

The team behind one of Denmark’s biggest bakery chains are to open a new restaurant in Canary Wharf later this year.

Ole Kristoffersen and Steen Skallebæk will launch the third London site under their Ole & Steen brand at Crossrail Place this spring.

The duo, who run the 60-strong Lagkagehuset bakery chain in Denmark, opened their first international restaurant at London’s St James’s Market development in 2016.

A boutique Ole & Steen shop is also lined up to open in Richmond this year.

The new 70-cover all-day dining restaurant will serve Scandinavian favourites such as cinnamon snegl (pastry swirls), and flodebolle (marshmallow puffs covered in dark chocolate and rolled in hazelnuts).

The bakery will also offer freshly baked breads and traditional open sandwiches.

It is the latest opening to join the Crossrail Place development, which is already home to restaurants including Big Easy, Sticks’n’Sushi and The Breakfast Club.
