Thaikhun to open second Scottish site

Thai Leisure Group (TLG) is to open a second Scottish branch of its Thaikhun street food concept in Glasgow.

Thaikhun – pronounced ‘tycoon’ – will take a 3,337 sq.ft site in the new £20m leisure extension of Glasgow’s Silverburn shopping centre in early December.

It will be the fifth overall venue for the chain, which has sites in Aberdeen, Manchester, Oxford and Cambridge.

Ian Leigh, group operations director at Thaikhun, said: “We exceeded all expectations when we opened Thaikhun in Union Square, Aberdeen, last July – the support and customer loyalty has been truly overwhelming.  Our vision is to bring a real taste of Thailand’s ‘street food scene’ to the people of Glasgow, in the form of authentically rustic surroundings and tasty street food dishes.”

TLG, which also operates fine dining brand Chaophraya, secured £10m of funding from Santander in March to aid expansion of its restaurant concepts nationwide.

It is aiming to open six sites through this year and a further eight in 2016, with a focus on the Thaikhun format.
